David’s Picture Framing & Woodwork History
David’s initial interest in woodworking started at age 5 when he began constructing model aeroplanes, which led to bigger projects, including a canoe at age 12. After leaving college, he was apprenticed to a furniture maker and later branched out into his own business, making office furniture. His first interest in picture framing began in London in 1985, and when he moved to Australia, he continued framing part-time in between building boats.
Upon returning to New Zealand, he operated a picture framing shop in Tauranga. Now in semi-retirement, he runs a framing business from his home in Rangatira Park, Taupō. In addition to framing, he constructs bowls in various styles and from a range of woods, both New Zealand and exotic; paints watercolours; and, upon request, makes kit-set coffins.
